PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION

Prevention of Fire is categorized into following activities.

Fire Detection : On set of fire is detected through Smoke Detectors, alarm systems etc.

Fire Fighting : Equipments are deployed to fight the fire AFTER it has occurred like fire extinguishers, sprinklers, CO2, flooding system etc.

Passive Fire Protection System :

Various combustible materials are either made of not easily ignitable materials or coated with fire retardant paints to render these non-combustible. Wood, PVC Cables, Curtain, Canvas, Hessian etc. are painted or chemically treated to achieve this objective.

Compartmentation :

Large areas are compartmentalized with the help of fire resistant doors, partitions, through penetration and cable fire stops. Fire is contained within a compartment for specified period of time, called as Fire Rating and not allowed to spread to other compartment horizontally or to the floors above & below the particular compartment.

The damage is localized & fire contained to a particular compartment only.
